Inbetween the teenager and their caregiver:

“I See You!” The Family as a Support Team

– how to Build a Coalition Around a Teenager

by Agnieszka Zdrzalik vel Gloria, Poland

I would like to invite you to a workshop on “noticing the teenager.” If the system doesn’t do it, the teenager will find their own way to make themselves seen.

During the workshop, we will experiment to discover what works in building a support team or a coalition in the teenager’s favour — and what works less. We will explore how to offer different perspectives to the system.

We will consider the SFBT, systemic, neurodevelopmental, psychoeducational, nonviolent communication (NVC), evolutionary together with ISTDP and EMDR, perspectives.

We will reflect on what might be useful — how to inspire ourselves from these approaches so that, in our SFBT session, the teenager feels seen.

And maybe we’ll also say “I see you” to the teenager’s parents — and explore what works in helping them all believe that their family can do well. That they’re capable — and that this is (usually) enough.

About Agnieszka Zdrzalik vel Gloria:

Agnieszka vel Gloria is a psychologist and Solution Focused psychotherapist (SFBT) in training, with training and experience in EMDR and ISTDP. She also holds two degrees in economics, one being Master of Business Administration from University of Minnesota. She is an advocate of daily gratitude practice, forest therapy, and cold-water immersion.

She describes herself as someone who strives to live according to the philosophy of SFBT and asks herself Steve', Insoo's and Luc's questions. With a rebellious spirit, and always after supervision, she allows herself to experiment a bit in her practice. Her background in the corporate and advertising world gives her an additional perspective on how to view the world, performance in therapy too.
